Chances
are, your computer can display a photo or pattern on your desktop,
like wallpaper. All computers running Mac OS 8 or later can, and
Windows PCs can as well, as long as the photo or pattern is saved in
BMP format. (Shareware utilities to display pictures on the desktop
are also available.) We've posted a few free colorful pictures and
'seamless' patterns that are sure to liven up your computer. These
are saved in JPEG format, which means that Windows users will need to
first convert them to BMP format before they can be used.
Instructions:
Just click a link below, and when the desktop picture or seamless
pattern finishes loading in your web browser, either right-click
(Windows) or click and hold down (Macintosh). A small menu will pop
up; select 'save as', 'download to disk', or the equivalent command,
then just select the new file as your desktop picture by either using
the Display Control Panel (Windows) or the Desktop Pictures Control
Panel (Macintosh).
